The Few Seconds That Change Everything

Most people think bad decisions happen because we're under pressure.
I've started to believe something different. I think they happen in the few seconds after pressure shows up.
Have you ever noticed how quickly your brain wants an answer?
Someone doesn't respond.
A meeting goes sideways.
A deadline moves.
Within seconds, we've already created a story about what's happening.
The problem isn't that we're thinking.
The problem is that we're often trying to escape uncertainty instead of understand reality.
Those aren't the same thing.
Over the years, I've realized that the quality of my decisions is directly connected to the quality of what I'm able to see.
If I'm missing half the picture, even a confident decision can still be the wrong one.
That's why I've stopped asking, "What's the fastest decision?"
Instead, I ask: "What am I still missing?"
That one question has changed far more decisions than any leadership book I've ever read.
