Finding Hope in Hard Times

We’ve had some hard times over the past few years. We’ve seen war, mass shootings, pandemics, economic uncertainty, and the list can go on. I’m sure you felt hopeless, and maybe you felt the lockdowns would never end or were uncertain about where your next paycheck was coming from.

I understand that finding hope and a light at the end of the tunnel can be challenging, and I have felt helpless plenty of times. It's important to remember that facing adversity doesn't have to mean giving up. Hope can be found in many forms: perseverance, empathy, resilience, and strength.

Perseverance

Perseverance is the act of moving forward despite the hardships and challenges you may be facing. You keep going and going despite everything. It’s difficult to persevere when you constantly have issues. However, the moments we persevere can be the most life-changing moments we experience.

Resilience

Resilience and perseverance can sometimes be confused with one another. The difference is that perseverance is the act of keeping going, while resilience is the mindset that helps you overcome those challenges in the first place. Overcoming physical hardships is one thing, and overcoming what’s inside your head is more complicated.

Strength

You can find strength in your character, mind, and your heart. We develop strength to protect ourselves and others in times of danger and hardship. Remember, though, that strength doesn’t mean being strong or unemotional. Sometimes, the strongest thing we can be vulnerable and open with the ones we love.

Empathy

The most important thing you can do when times are difficult is to empathize with those around you. Everyone is experiencing challenges of some kind at one point or another. Even when sharing your challenges, you must remember to empathize with others. This will help you feel connected with them, have gratitude for your blessings, and have a deeper understanding of the world.

It is essential also to also have empathy for yourself. Practice self-care during hardship and allow yourself time to process your feelings. Reach out for help if you need it—don't feel like you are alone in this battle. People around you care about you, so don’t hesitate to ask them for extra support or guidance when needed.

A positive outlook on life is essential for finding hope in hard times. Focus on the things that bring you joy, even if it’s just for a few moments each day. To keep hope alive, you must believe that things can and will improve in time. Hope is powerful and never fails to amaze us when we find a way to persevere through our hardships.

Remember, having hope during difficult periods is essential for staying strong and overcoming obstacles life throws. Don't give up—hope will always be there when you need it most! Allow yourself the time to heal, reach out for help if needed, and stay hopeful: your future is bright.
